Congratulations to my Dad and his Lady!

Out of 25 shots of my dad and his long-term girlfriend, I got this one that satisfied my quest for the perfect photo for their invitations.  I just wanted to post this and congratulate them publicly.

Three Buildings and a Lamp Post

Posted in Uncategorized on May 23, 2008 by Liz

Totally Random… I know.  The first photograph is of Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Reno, NV.  It was the church that was in the first “Sister Act” movie.  I only know that because my dad is a HUGE movie buff.  The second photograph is of a small patch of blue sky that was above this very cool looking lamp post on Arlington.  The third photograph is of two very different buildings.  The one on the left is the obviously the newest building.  It amazes me to see such old architecture next to such new architecture.  I will hopefully be able to get more photos up of the inside of Saint Thomas Aquinas church this evening.

Truckee River, Downtown Reno, NV

Here are a few pictures of the mighty Truckee River where it flows through downtown Reno.  It really can be quite beautiful.  Especially at dawn.

“A battle rages.  The howl of the water versus the stubborn rock.

She hurls herself at him over… and over.
He stands strong… yet secretly… slowly eroding.  But he will not give up.  He will not be dislodged.

For years they’ll continue… neither one faltering.
The question will remain.
Can she be tamed… by a rock?”

The Tree

Everyone that has seen the first of these photos has said that they love it, so I decided to take another shot while I was at the river the other day.  Shot one is from 05/13/08 and the second is from 05/22/08.  Hope you enjoy.

“Ever rushing, ever changing…
The blood of the Earth flows hurriedly… too busy to stop. To notice. To admire that which surrounds it.
She doesn’t notice the slight nuances.  Her path alters when forced… but barely sees the change.  She has a course to run… a race to finish.
A race to reach the freedom that awaits her, at the end of the tunnel.

The elderly tree stands strong.  Watching life move on without him.
His roots planted firmly.
He has no vast expanse to move towards.  No goal to aim for.  No light at the end of the tunnel.
So he sits… and watches.  Growing older… growing wiser… but going nowhere.
The more things change… the more they stay the same.”

Kayak Sequence 05/13/08

Last Tuesday, I decided to take my camera out for the first time in six months.  I parked in the Sands Regency parking lot and walked the four blocks to the River Walk along the Truckee River in downtown Reno.  I didn’t expect to run into anyone other than a few joggers, and was surprised when I saw a kayaker in the midst of practicing some maneuvers.  I thought I’d try for some good action shots… what do you think?

Day One: Back in the Game

Finally, after a six month hiatus from photography, I picked my camera up on the thirteenth of this month.  I took a walk in downtown Reno, and walked along the “River Walk” along the Truckee River.  The photograph in my header is one of the shots that I snapped while trying to find inspiration.  I was amazed at how some of them turned out.  I will be using this blog to help people see my work.  If you like something that you see, and want to order a print, all you have to do is comment and we’ll talk.  Thanks!!!
